Spatial Mapping

You can learn a lot simply by watching where people go, how they get there and what they do along the way. Using this Retail Forensics® technique, we meticulously gather data on how shoppers enter and exit your store, where they go once inside and what paths they follow to get there. We tell you what displays stop them in their tracks and which ones are ignored and/or simply in their way. We note what areas receive the most traffic and which areas are dead so you can allocate your sales associates most effectively. We answer questions like:

  • Are your store's entrances and exits efficiently navigable while still able to convey marketing messages? (Crowded and chaotic storefronts are more often passed by or ignored.)
  • Are your sales associates properly deployed to meet the needs of foot traffic dynamics and customer population densities that vary throughout the day? (Your customers at 10:30am are likely behaving quite differently than those in you store at 6:00pm.)
  • What obstacles are impeding, unnecessarily, with the flow of traffic through you store? (A misplaced fixture that blocks customers' line-of-sight from one critical store area to another often results in a "dead-zone" of activity. This is even worse if your sales associates collect here...They are neither seen nor seeing.)

We can find out for you where people spend the most time so you can alleviate congestion, add more marketing messages or effectively place top-line fixtures and SKUs. We can also provide insight based over specific time periods, so that you can more efficiently schedule your staff around the cycles of activity in your store. By analyzing your store's traffic patterns, we can harmonize the customer flow and make sure your whole store gets shopped with the attention it deserves!
